Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs)

Anyone who is eligible can stand as an MSP.

Anyone who wants to become an MSP must be eligible to do so and submit a nomination form.

You can stand as a member of a political party, or as an independent candidate. Each party has its own internal process for choosing its candidates.

You have to be:

• 18 years old or older
• either a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union

You do not need to:

• be a registered voter
• have any specific qualifications
